New road survey in the US with Road-Scanner C – Service Excellence

This is an excellent example of survey carried out with with the Road-Scanner Compact, which demonstrates the effectiveness of the system and the exceptional results obtained.
IMU: Applanix AP20 with dual GPS antennas
Laser scanners: 2x FARO Focus s130
Spherical Camera: FLIR Point Grey Ladybug 5.
The survey was carried out on a distance of approximately 24 km. The RS-C equipment was assembled and mounted onto a rented Ford Expedition SUV. The highest exterior temperature was -10 degrees Celcius (well below the temperature operating range reported in the laser scanner specifications). The data collection was carried out in about 20 minutes, including all necessary GPS satellite initialization time. The registered high quality and accuracy were well within the system specification range.
Road-SIT Survey processing: approx. 1 hour
Output to LAS file: approx 3 hours
Computer: Intel Core i5, 16 BG RAM, 1 TB HDD
Overall estimated planar accuracy of 2-5 cm and elevation accuracy of 3-6 cm.
At the presentation of the results obtained, our client immediately recognized the benefits offered by the mobile mapping system and realized that the acquisition of 3D data with a specialized system, can greatly reduce working time and increase productivity, making the survey of environmental changes an integral part of the missions.
This technology is recognized as having the potential to virtually map and visualize an area before starting any type of activity on it.
Very interesting and attractive videos were created processing these data.
A number of images have also been produced from the various demonstrations carried out with the SITECO Road-SIT Survey software and mobile lidar data.
